williamsburg subaru man

photo via a test of will

Any resident of williamsburg should know this man. Any visitor to williamsburg on a warm, sunny, sunday afternoon must recognize the maroon subaru pictured above. If you spend any time in my neighborhood at all, then you’ve definitely heard this man belt out the oldies for hours and hours, providing entertainment and smiles to all who cross his path. Freewilliamsburg has posted an interview with this mysterious, neighborhood institution for you viewing enjoyment.

thomas keller gets served

Here’s an interesting article by a writer at esquire that had the guts to invite thomas keller over for dinner…while cooking selections from thomas’ new cookbook, ad hoc at home. I can’t really imagine a more stressful cooking scenario for any chef, let alone a slightly above average home cook, than to prepare a meal for one of the best chefs in the world today. Definitely read the article for some choice thoughts on cooking, living, and eating from a notoriously private chef.

$14,000 leica film camera, anyone?

here’s leica’s latest film camera, rumored to be released tomorrow. It’s going to be a very exclusive run of only 100 manufactured and sold. $14,000 to most likely sit on someone’s table in their mansion as a paper weight.

**UPDATED**

To be more specific, it’s actually called the leica “Hermes edition” M7. No wonder there’s an option to get it wrapped in that standard hermes orange. Available this December.

canon 1D Mark IV video footage

nocturne2-550x307

In a practice that has become standard with canon releases lately, professional photog vincent laforet was able to get the first hands on with the new canon 1D Mark IV DSLR.

according to gizmodo:

The 1D Mark IV uses an APS-H-sized 16-megapixel sensor that’s “similar in size to a Super 35mm motion picture film frame” with a 1.3x crop factor (so not full-frame, booo) , and a normal ISO range of 100 to 12,800, with expanded going up to 102,400 ISO (like Nikon’s fresh D3s). The new 45-point autofocus system has 39 cross-type points and uses a new AI Servo II AF predictive focusing algorithm that’s supposed to be faster, which is handy, since it shoots in 10fps bursts.

Now, to the good stuff. What better way to show off such amazing new low light tech than with a full HD movie utilizing nothing but natural night time lighting? The first post of this footage on vincent’s blog was taken down by canon, only to pop up on youtube and several other video hosting sites a few days later.

Here’s a link to the ground breaking footage. enjoy.

If you don’t think this is the coolest costume ever, there’s something wrong with you. I think that if I start now, I’d be able to finish something like this for halloween 2011. Here’s a link to an article in gizmodo that outlines how Eric Testroete created this amazing work of art.

Those Who Are About To Die Salute You

This is why New York City is so great. Can anyone name another city in the world that would produce such an amazing art related event? check out this performance art piece staged by Duke Riley in queens. It’s really a site to behold. I’m so pissed that I missed this.

sidewalk sheds

scaffolding

As a pedestrian walking the streets of NYC, it’s hard to miss the  ubiquitous sidewalk shed. These structures spend most of their days as eyesores, protecting passersby from falling bricks, and providing some welcome dry spots during a rare NYC downpour. If you’d like more insight into these structures, why they exist, and answers as to when they’ll go away (never)… check out the WSJ article here.
